At some point, everyone’s mind gets in the way of their drawing. Whether it's self-doubt about your abilities, feeling overly attached to your work halfway through and not pushing on, or overthinking how to start in the first place. These obstacles can hinder your drawing and enjoyment of making a drawing. This class is perfect for learning fearless and focused drawing techniques whilst getting to enjoy the experience of drawing portraits!

With the guidance of tutor and artist, Frances Stanfield you will be taken through the value of reworking the same portrait with a series of short exercises to help embolden your drawing technique. Starting with activities designed to help you loosen up and build confidence, you will explore how to depict the shapes of your subjects. As the class progresses, you will experiment with reworking and refining your initial drawings, transforming initial impressions into expressive, layered and lively portraits. 

No experience or drawing partner necessary – just bring yourself, your enthusiasm and some silliness!

London Drawing Group runs mainly online art classes that are all pay-what-you-can. They believe high quality art classes should be available to everyone whatever their level or financial situation. London Drawing Group was co-founded by artists Frances Stanfield, Lucy McGeown and Luisa-Maria MacCormack who met whilst studying together on a scholarship at the Royal Drawing School Central. They are now joined by Lily Holder who teaches their life drawing classes and a number of other guest tutors who specialise in a wide range of drawing-based practices!

Frances, as well as being a founding member of London Drawing Group is also a practicing artist working in drawing, printmaking and painting. She is also the author of two books - The Drawing Ideas Book and The Printmaking Ideas Book which can be found in most major UK bookshops and online including the Tate bookshop, Waterstones and Foyles.
